I know there are SO many choices when it comes to wedding planning, and a first look may not seem like a big one, but it really is! It can set the tone for your day and it very important for your timeline. If you’re reading this, it’s because you’re curious if you should do a first look with your fiance for not. Well, I’m here to tell you there is no right or wrong answer, BUT I am also here to tell you my thoughts on why you SHOULD do it. Here are my 7 reasons why you should consider a first look for your wedding day!
Your wedding is about the two of you, but often couples don’t spend a lot of time as just that; a couple! A first look gives you an opportunity at the beginning of your wedding day to say “hi gorgeous, how ya doing?”, it is also a perfect time to exchange gifts, say a prayer, and get your nerves out!
I couldn’t even tell you how many times my couples’ nerves melted away once they saw each other. They were much more relaxed and ready for the day. Often times, after my couples see each other, they are immediately hungry so first looks are perfect right before lunch!
Every bride wants a photogenic and beautiful wedding. I want you to imagine that you can choose where you see your soon-to-be husband for the first time on your wedding day. Is it in an ornate archway? In a forest? On a balcony? At the top of a spiral staircase? How cool that you can CHOOSE how you want to see your almost-husband for the first time on your wedding day. Why not take advantage of that?
This can be a huge stressor on your wedding day especially if you’re getting ready at the same location or even showing up at the ceremony location around the same time. If you do a first look, you can arrive places together and have no concern about a passing car possibly containing your man.
This one sounds kind of backwards, but if you have already spend valuable time with each other and exchanged hugs, and kisses, and words, you then will feel the freedom of spending more time with your guests at the reception.
Doing a first look is very practical because it helps alleviate your timeline and allows for more flexibility throughout your day. It helps for planning the flow of the day and allows for me to get photos of you and your fiance, the entire wedding party, and/or complete family photos BEFORE the ceremony even begins. This means that after the ceremony you can go straight to the reception or I can sneak the two of you away for more images!
A first look is a perfect opportunity for more photos of you and your almost-hubby. It allows me the flexibility to move freely around my couples and get different angles and facial expressions, which of course, means more photos for you to enjoy! A first look down the aisle is traditional but typically restricting for photographers.
